About The Tear-Off
The Tear-Off is a bold medium-dark roast of Brazilian and Mexican beans. It brings deep cocoa and toasted nut to the cup with a full body, and it is smooth enough that most of the crew drinks it black.
It rates 10/12 on our pitch scale, one step shy of Ridge Cap. It is the coffee we started the whole brand with, and it is still the one we would hand to someone who says they just want a strong, honest cup.
Why we named it The Tear-Off
A tear-off is exactly what it sounds like: stripping the old roofing down to the deck before the new roof goes on. It is the dirtiest part of the job and the one full of surprises, like finding two more layers under the one you quoted.
That is the idea behind every coffee in the lineup: each one is named after a piece of the job and rated on our roof-pitch scale. The Tear-Off sits at 10/12. Read more roofing terms in our roofing glossary.
How to brew The Tear-Off
- Drip machine: The job-trailer standard. Measure it right and it tastes like it should.
- French press: Full immersion brings out body, chocolate and depth.
- Cold brew: Make a jug the night before for the roofs that hit triple digits.

What does the 10/12 pitch rating mean?
