About Starter Strip
Starter Strip is the only single origin in the 12 oz lineup. It comes from the highlands of Sidamo in Ethiopia and it is naturally processed, which means the coffee cherry dries around the bean. That is where the ripe pear, lemon and fresh blueberry come from, along with a floral aroma you notice the second the bag opens.
We roast it light-medium, one step darker than Skylight and Low Slope, to keep the fruit bright but give the cup a little more weight. It rates 5/12 on our pitch scale.
Why we named it Starter Strip
The starter strip is the first course installed along the eaves, and often the rakes, before the first full row of shingles. It fills the gaps under the first course and puts a sealant line right at the edge, so wind cannot get under the roof and lift it. It goes down first and everything else lines up off it.
